Aggie Kuperman is proof that the best revenge against the Nazis is living life. Aggie’s mother, Sara, managed to hide herself and then-baby Aggie from the Nazis in 1944 – the only survivors in their family. They later escaped from Communist Hungary and made their way to Newark, New Jersey where they faced new challenges.
“There was crime, I knew no English, and I went to a school where I was the only Jewish kid,” she recalls. Aggie quickly mastered English and she and Sara worked to save money and move to a better neighborhood. “She was the central character of my life, she meant everything to me,” Aggie said of her mother, who passed away in 2006.
Aggie worked at the U.S. State Department as a diplomat and was evacuated from the U.S. embassy in Iran shortly before it was invaded in 1979, when several of her colleagues were taken hostage. Soon afterward, she was in Pakistan where she was forced to leave after the U.S. embassy was burnt down.
Over the past 10 years Aggie has worked as a contractor for the Department of State, leading the International Visitor Leadership Program, which introduces young international leaders in their fields to their counterparts and American culture.
Aggie’s involvement with Jewish National Fund began 20 years ago when she chaired a breakfast in Denver, Colorado. She now serves on the Greater Washington Board, giving generously of her time and resources.
“Jewish National Fund is one of the few organizations that does concrete things and accomplishes real outcomes,” she said. This is why Aggie chose to establish a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) with Jewish National Fund, which allows her to benefit from a consistent and reliable income stream with high rates and a tax deduction. For Aggie, this is an investment that she can feel good about. “The future of the Jewish people is tied with Israel and Jewish National Fund is seeing to that successful future,” she said.
