“Her heart was Israel.” That’s how Marci Feinberg describes her sister, Carol Milett’s (z”l) connection to the Jewish homeland. “Her remarkable love for Israel was matched only by her generosity. Israel was her one love,” recalled Marci. “Anything related to Israel, she was there.”
Born in Brooklyn and raised as a proud Jew in a Zionist home, Carol spent her career as a dedicated teacher, shaping the next generation. She retired to Aventura, Florida, where she continued her support for Israel. Always smiling, Carol became a beloved and active member of Jewish National Fund-USA’s Women for Israel Sapphire Society. Her support covered many areas, from building water reservoirs and purchasing firefighting equipment to strengthening community development and security. Carol also invested in the next generation through Alexander Muss High School in Israel.
Carol’s legacy is honored in Israel’s stunning American Independence Park, which recognizes the generous support of American Jews, and via a life-saving bomb shelter lovingly donated in her memory.
Carol contributed to a trust to be distributed after her passing but in the spirit of, ‘If not now, when?’ she decided to begin immediately giving 100% of her Required Minimum Distributions to Israel. Marci remembers fondly that Carol lived a frugal life in order to be able to send more money to the place she loved so much.
Carol taught her family and friends about the joy of giving. Sharona Whisler, Jewish National Fund Director, Miami, says, “Carol was one of the most charitable people I knew. She truly enjoyed helping others.” Marci agrees and shared that Carol inspired her and her husband, Stephen, to give as well, as they now contribute to Jewish National Fund from their IRAs.
Before she passed, Carol and Marci were able to visit Israel together on a Jewish National Fund Sunshine Mission for active adults 55+, where they had an unforgettable opportunity to see their impact up-close and make treasured memories. “She was a very proud Zionist,” remembers Marci. “She always called it her homeland.”
