JNF honors Rhonda and Larry Sheakley

The Jewish National Fund was joined by nearly 400 people in honoring Rhonda and Larry Sheakley on September 14, 2016, during their Tree of Life™ Award Dinner held at the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati. The couple was honored for their dedication to the Cincinnati community and Israel.

Bret Stephens, Deputy Page Editor for The Wall Street Journal, was the featured guest speaker.

Larry and Rhonda Sheakley have demonstrated a dedication to the needs of the Cincinnati community for many years. In the past, they have been honored for this commitment with the Philanthropist of the Year Award and The Heart of the City Award.

They are most committed to Lighthouse Youth Services, where they have served on the board and advisory board, and chaired The Ending Youth Homeless Campaign. The Sheakley Youth Center provides emergency shelter, case management, day services, and street outreach, changing the outlook and future for our homeless youth. In collaboration with Major League Baseball and the community, they built the Rhonda and Larry Sheakley Boys and Girls Club offering kids after school educational, enriching, fun and life changing opportunities, in addition to a hot meal every day and a huge hug.

Bret Stephens writes “Global View,” the foreign affairs column of The Wall Street Journal, for which he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary in 2013. He is the Journal’s deputy editorial page editor, responsible for the opinion pages of the paper’s sister editions in Europe and Asia, as well as a member of the Journal’s editorial board. He is also a regular panelist on the Journal Editorial Report, a political talk show carried nationally by the Fox News Channel.

According to the JNF website, the Sheakleys spend time at their home in California, but their hearts are in Cincinnati. They are the parents of eight children and a soon to be twelfth grandchild. They both believe that to those who are given, much is expected.
